Where the wild things are....
Laurel picked up this flower bouquet from our garden. And the nest
blew away in last weeks high winds.
But perhaps the wildest thing is how in love she is with her truck and cars!

Garden tour season! part 2
I woke up super excited today because
1- I had lucked out a few months ago when I took a class (again) with
my favorite bug (entomologist) dork in the whole wide world, Bob
Allen, at the Theodore Payne Foundation called "the wacky world of
pollinators and the native plants that attract them" or something in
that order. All about native solitary bees.... Mostly. And I
happened not only to be the youngest in the class (of course) but to
sit directly across an idol and heroine of the native plant world,
Carol Borstein, and her long time friend Richard Hayden. More on
them:
2- Richard and I exchanged cards. They were both excited about my
office (yes rios again) and our grand park. Richard offered a tour of
the not yet opened gardens at the natural history museum where he is
head gardener And Carol abandoned the amazing position she had a the
Santa Barbara Botanical Garden to be the museum head of the new
garden! So a few weeks later I couldn't wait to say hi! I will love
to visit your museum garden!
3- And ask and you shall receive! What they have done here is beyond
amazing. I do not think there is a garden any where in California that
has more thought put into each plant and the soil, water conditions
and most importantly the wild life it benefits. Pictures don't do it
justice. And I can't believe Miah Leher's office did it! Argh!

Garden tour season!
Today was G-day! Garden tour season kick started with my all time
favorite the Theodore Payne foundation for native plants tour. It was
their 10th anniversary. And I didn't get to see may fav gardens.
Because I had 2 others very special new ones to see!!!
Starting from the last one in occurrence
The Montecito Heights Garden Tour. A self guided tour of usually 10 or
so gardens in our neighborhood that is my favorite comunity event.
And today. Quite possible the best garden in MH was opened to the
public for the first time, in at least the 5 years we've lived here!
No surprise it belongs to an artist and her architect husband, Tom
Marble and Paige ---- . Tom was an employee of my now office back
in the day it was only known as Rios. (Early '90s). Paige exchanged a
piece of art with my awesome boss Mark Rios for his envision/ design
of the garden
And it's amazing. Of course. I'm not apologizing for being so proud of
this amazing designer and visionary human being known as mark rios. My
boss! Yay! Ok. I may get all fed up with work on Wednesday but
finally going in that one garden you've peaked at for years today was
a huge highlight of my year.
Thank you jeff for holding the fort all day!
