Mama's pick up report + pictures

Thought it would be cute to do the pick up scene to match

Here is the report:

"Nancy says she didn't eat much today. Provably the molars that have been bugging her the last few nights.

Waved to a painter across the street. Pointed at the sound of a small plane.

As soon as we got in the car grabbed her sippy for a good drink of water. With my help she took of her shoes and pulled her socks, which made her crack up! Then I tried to give her a healthier cracker option (organic brown rice crisps) no dice! So we went back to the usual multi-grain crackers."

Daddah's drop of report + pics

Today:
"Little asian boy got dropped off before us. She had to watch how it went"

And earlier this week:
"Didn't stop crying till we got to Ribet Academy. Saw a garbage truck."

"Nancy came outside. She saw that laurel was too distracted to come in... Dogs, construction, leaves, birds!"

Its just another Tuesday...

Here is a little blurb I wrote for my good friend and ex-coworker Ryan on tuesday:

I'm on my second 72" box tree installation of the day, juggling power poles, trees and cranes. Haven't set foot at my desk. May not even get to it today.

Had an awesome long chat with the original gardener of this property. He started when he was 16. Over 30 years ago and they are keeping him on board. Which is perfect.

My superior told me I know a lot more than he does about plants. Glad to have been able to prove my knowledge already. This job has been great fun, not work for me!

Enjoying food

Monkey went to town with a cutie (pixie or small mandarin orange) on the ride back home and then she "destroyed" Chinese left overs (pork and green beans).

She also had roasted yam and a cup of milk! If we had cheese she would have eaten that too.

'Nandez

Today I connected thru a local online mom group with a fellow mom at Laurel's day care.

She told me she is the mom of a 2.5 year old named Violet (I don't know them yet) and asked who my baby was...

Here is what she said:

"I've met Laurel - she's adorable! Violet can't quite pronounce her name so she calls her Worra. Glad to hear you've been happy at Hernandez, or, as Violet calls it, Nandez. We consider it a real find."

I hear Laurel has become very popular. She greets and says good bye to every parent and kid. That parents want to know where she is from (guess she must be a foreigner to be so sociable!)

The pictures above are of miss Laurel standing on the front door at Hernandez. I will take pictures of the interior so you can see how nice it is.

But the best part is how nice the Hernandez family is :)

Morning updates

Here are some of Jeff's morning updates I get after he drops the Monx off:

"Excited to put on shoes and socks. Walked over. She knows where to go. Walked in and went to Nancy"

"She is such a nice kid. You should've seen how concerned she was with the crying kid. Didn't even care that I was leaving!"

"Drop was fine. Long walk, lots of leaves, birds and sitting on a brick wall."

I like my walls

Maybe a little too much. All I want to do is peel them on and off!

Little tree house

Laurel and I went to town finishing up her room's walls... Well finished for now!

The new tree, birds, butterfly, hot air balloon addition are a design of my friend and now coworker Chiaki Kanda for NotNeutral (part of my office, isn't it awesome!).

The flowers I had bought before Laurel was born but had only used half.

So I'm pretty please with the results. Her room has gotten soooo over the top tree house, bird theme its awesome! Specially since it all happened kind of naturally, just fell into place.

Laurel helped me a lot sticking all the new stuff on the walls. It was fun!!!

Elysian park play date

Laurel and her sweet neighbor Quinna and mom, Raye Ann, met us at Elysian park for a little play date and picnic.

Laurel couldn't resist another mom's crochet blanket!

We had fun on the playground, but Laurel was not up for the swing.

Raye Ann, who's very crafty, is who made most all of Laurel's hair clips :)

They are good people, neighbors and becoming good friends! We like them a lot!

Awesome Daddy!

Jeff stayed home today (and all afternoon yesterday) to care for the monkey. I had to go to Santa Barbara for work. Laurel seems much better today than yesterday and even though Jeff was exhausted by the end they seemed to have had tons of fun (and he got her he own cleaning tools!)

She is staying home tomorrow too. I'm home until 11 am and then our nice neighbor across the street Tara will watch her for us. So relieved she could lend us a hand!

This is when you really really really miss the grandparents! Miss you guys!

15th Month Check Up

We finally had our 15th month check up. A month late as we originally had it scheduled for my first week at the new job and so I changed it (3 times) trying to find a good day to ask permission to be absent. Its tough being new :)

Unfortunately and thankfully, at the same time, it coincided with Laurel developing a high fever (of 103.6F!) the night before. Doctor Rivera checked for signs of bacterial infection (ears, urine) and nothing turned up. So most likely its viral and his best guess is Roseola, which has been doing rounds recently. There is no treatment and no way of testing for it. It gives 3-4 days of fever and then a mild pinkish (non itchy) rash shows up in the torso area. So we are to wait and see how she is doing and if in deed it's Roseola.

Good news:
She is well above and beyond the expected developmental milestones for her age: can say more than 3 words (heck yeah! and in 2 languages!). Can climb stairs assisted (oh my! She does it unassisted!).... She is actually counting to 2 now! in english :)

Stats:
Height : 32.5" (89%)
Weight : 24 lbs + 10 oz (67%)
Head : 48 cm (91%)

I took care of her in the morning and Jeff took care of her in the afternoon. Somehow she managed to stay in Aunt Laura and Kristen's dress all day!

Tomorrow Jeff will be super mom+dad as I have to be in Santa Barbara for work and friday is still tbd....

Oh! The doctor's projection is that she will be 5'-7" ! That's the first time we hear a height estimation. Cool!

Friends of Se's farewell party

We had a "clear out the fos stuff-a-teria" party where Laurel ended up being the star of the show. As always.

www.friendsofse.com still darn cool, though!
